Slot – A Position in a Sequence of Bets
A narrow opening or position, especially one enabling access or passage.
The slots in a machine that accept cash or paper tickets with barcodes (in “ticket-in, ticket-out” machines). A slot on a computer disk or other storage medium into which a file may be saved. A notch or other narrow opening in the primaries of certain birds, to allow air to flow over them during flight.
In gambling, a position in a sequence of bets: He stepped into the slot behind the leader and two wingmen.
A space in a machine that receives coins or tokens to activate the reels. A slot may have several pay lines, and the more tokens inserted into the machine, the higher the chances of winning. The payouts of a particular slot game are specified in its pay table. When playing a slot machine, the player should always play the maximum bet to maximize their chances of winning.
A small opening in a rock face, such as a fissure or crack that reveals some of the rock’s inner structure. Often these can be used for climbing or caving. Also see gulley, notch, and crater. In ice hockey, the unmarked area in front of the goal between the face-off circles.
